When cleaning up a hard drive manually, the most logical approach would be to find and remove the largest chunks of data you don't need. GrandPerspective can make this chore straightforward and easy. It provides a visual representation of how much disk space certain files take up, in relation to other contents. This makes it much easier to spot the largest files on a disk partition or in a certain folder.

When launched, the application will ask you to select one of your folders, on a standard Open window. The selected folder will be scanned, after which its contents will be represented on a compact user interface. Files are presented as tiles, which are color-coded based on their formats. Also, the size of the files are reflected by the size of the tiles. Bigger tiles represent large files and so on.

Hovering with the mouse cursor over a tile will display the corresponding file's name on the lower edge of the interface, along with its size. A few options can be found on a toolbar, for opening a selected tile's corresponding file, revealing its location on a Finder window and for deleting the file.

GrandPerspective provides a few customization controls as well. You can bring up a drawer panel, on the right side of the interface, on which you will find general information about the scanned folder, as well as options for choosing different colors, enabling masks and more.

Pros

The application provides a clear picture on a folder's disk space usage. It represents each file differently, based on its format and size. GrandPerspective allows you to reveal selected files or folders in the Finder, delete them and more.

Cons

There are no obvious drawbacks to mention. With GrandPerspective, you will always know which files are the largest in a specific folder.
